    I was instantly engaged with this opening. It's among the very best ones posted on FTQ in the five months I've been reading it. I also loved the voice. Although the profanity didn't bother me, Ray makes a good point in toning it down. Too much salty language risks damaging the reader's sympathy for your protagonist, especially when he's an anti-hero.
    The only stumbling point for me was his wife's reaction: "... she said that there was no other way." I had to read it twice because it wasn't immediately clear if his wife agreed or disagreed that Tim should die. Perhaps "you had no other choice" would be clearer.
    Thanks for sharing. I'd love to read this story.
