    Good thoughts! I particularly relished the exhortation to 'be willing to be bad.' Good advice!

    Yes, yes, yes. I'm such a believer in "write in longhand first"--I myself prefer yellow legal pads and a really good ink (not ballpoint!) pen. It certainly is what helped get me to my first novel (published July 2006). I used to feel like such a fraud for "only" writing for one hour a day--btu what I found is that I was THINKING about my characters all the rest of the time--so that when I sat down to write, I knew them really well.
