Hi,
I'm very glad to be posting today. My wife and I were
on our way to work on the highway Tuesday morning and hit some black ice (the
transparent kind that you can't see). I lost control and, at 60 miles per hour,
the car rolled 3 or 4 times. (I wasn't counting).
I just got home from 2
days in the hospital, surviving with a broken collar bone, a gashed scalp, and
mashed ear. My wife is in for more observation--she got a hefty concussion and a
deep gash on her forehead, but no broken bones.
The good news is that
we're alive. Our little Tracker protected us well--it is like totally totalled.
Other luck is that our son Dan, a college senior, is home for winter break and
he's been a great help to us.
My wife should be home today, and then
we'll get going on recovery. I'm feeling pretty good, all considered.
So you'll understand if I don't get something up on FtQ for a week or so. But I had another episode of my story blog already written and was able to post it, so visit it if you have a moment.
Best,
Ray

Sorry to hear about the vehicular misfortune, but very glad to know it was a near miss for you and the better half. I do hope you both have a speedy recovery with no lingering aftereaffects.
I have many years of experience with black ice and you do have my sincere sympathy and rage at the weather "deus ex machina" that controls us all.

I've been reading this blog for the last few months, and thoroughly enjoying the free education I'm receiving. Especially the post on how to start sentences with different words. Excellent stuff.
So I'm terribly sorry to hear about your accident, and wish you the very quickest, Wolverine-style, of recoveries.

Wow Ray, best wishes for you and your wife's speedy recovery! I live in the Northeast and black ice accidents are second only to deer collisions...at least you can see the deer! You guys were soooo lucky.
